about

48 CAMERAS is a project around a nucleus of Belgian musicians who, as they work on new material, invite musicians from all over the world and from different styles and backgrounds.

48 CAMERAS is a Belgian collective with variable geometry, who invite all along the albums, some musicians and non musicians from different countries and various cultures. Many of them never met, a great part of the recordants have been done via internet mailing !

Basically, the major part of the music is constructed on climax more than written or structure music.
It gives the opportunity to the guests to integrate in their own style, bringing character, colour and personality to each song.

Here, on this 8th album of the collective, there are still prestigious guests.
For this recording, the vocal part is still marked by personalities.
Indeed, the presence of Sandy DILLON and Carrie Ann VESICA PISCIS gives to this recording a value that the connoisseurs will appreciate.
But there is also the bewitching voice of Pascale TEMPELS, who once more is reaching the listener straight to the heart.

On this album, the accent is laid on a wanton environment around a moving with almost no rhythms.
It is a moving sound that gives the direction and the speed of the voyage.
The conventional instruments can thus slip such as chameleons, and melt in the ambient torpor.
No need to juggle, or make a demonstration of virtuosity, just lay down a few notes, fresh like drops of morning dew, and clear as crystal.

Here, one returns towards an introspective and poetic world, into concepts where from time to time you’ll find the shadow of “Third Ear Band”, a world full of microcosms.
A very acoustic setting, but nevertheless haunted by sounds from outside the acoustic world, just melt into it, at a point that you can easily get to take one for the other.

Basically, most of the music is built oround an ambience more than a written structure. Working in this way, the guest musicians can fit in without being limited by a pre-defined style, and bring their personal approach, giving each piece a pronounced character and colour.

All the guests are prestigious. There is Gérard MALANGA whose artistic domain goes from photography to poetry. He has worked with Andy WARHOL, and as ‘official’ photographer has done portraits of Mick JAGGER, William BURROUGHS, Iggy POP, and many others.
There are also John FINEY and David COULTER, members of the POGUES. David COULTER has worked with a great number of prestigious artists, and the same thing applies ot all the other guests on this album.

If all these guests are on this album, it isn’t just a coincidence; it is because basically, 48 CAMERAS proposes a musically receptive context and a rich and wide musical horizon.
Sometimes, a piece such as “First Study For A Portrait Of Paul Buck” might remind the listener of MASSIVE ATTACK, and some other pieces of THIRD EAR BAND or PORTISHEAD, maybe BJÖRK. In this way, the pieces form a suite of events that move smoothly from one world to another.

The contrast between the pieces is makes this record a unique reference, close, but not the same as, current musical movements.
